Bits and Things (of varying value, jumbling around in my head) - 2023
As the online world continues to expand, consuming our attention more powerfully than ever before, at times I feel buried under a ceaseless deluge of images, videos and soundbites. My memories fragment and blur then reassemble in convoluted ways.
This body of work is an attempt at synthesising the overwhelming abundance of content within the confines of my already limited bandwidth. Across the collection of paintings seemingly disparate images and fragments of text converge, each tied to a personal encounter, interaction or experience in my digital and physical landscapes. The resulting compositions are a reflection of the vibrant chaos I have absorbed, a jumble of banality, complexity, humour, and intrigue.
The accompanying ceramic plates are a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional commemorative plate, which historically preserved and celebrated significant historical events. However, instead of immortalising the splendour of the past, I seek to celebrate the fleeting essence of our digital age.
The works aim to capture, engage and distract the viewer, immersing them in the sensation of being awash in an algorithm.
